Electra, a startup focused on hybrid-electric ultra-short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft, has completed a series of demonstration flights to evaluate its aircraft's potential as a feeder system for major airports. The flights were conducted under the FAA's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) and received support from transportation departments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The flight program began at Electra’s base in Manassas, Virginia, and concluded at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Along the route, the company’s 'Goldfinch' demonstrator made stops at several regional airports, including Millville Executive Airport (MIV) and Atlantic City Bader Field (AIY) in New Jersey, as well as Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) in Pennsylvania.

## Testing Air Network Capillarity

The primary goal of the project was to assess how small hybrid-electric aircraft like Electra’s could integrate into the U.S. national airspace management system by servicing underused regional airfields. The company envisions its ultra-STOL aircraft creating direct connections between communities, regional airports, and major hubs, offering a faster and more accessible travel option.

Marc Allen, Electra’s CEO, emphasized the significance of the milestone, stating, 'Electra’s Ultra Short aircraft can create direct connections between communities, regional airports, and major hubs, unlocking a faster, more accessible way to travel.' He added that the collaboration with the FAA, PennDOT, and NJDOT is paving the way for 'Direct Aviation' and extending U.S. leadership in aviation innovation.

## Parallel Testing Initiatives

In addition to the recent demonstration flights, Electra is engaged in several other projects to test its technology in real-world conditions. These include:

- A demonstration flight program in Florida, conducted in partnership with the state’s Department of Transportation and private-sector collaborators. - A project with Signature Aviation and Vertiports by Atlantic to evaluate the suitability of its ultra-STOL aircraft for operations at heliports in the New York/New Jersey area. - A testing program in Louisiana in collaboration with Bristow Group.

These initiatives aim to further validate the operational capabilities of Electra’s aircraft and its potential to transform regional air travel.
