Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will reconnect Scandinavia and India with a new nonstop service starting October 1, 2026. The year-round route between Copenhagen and Mumbai marks the airline's return to India after a 17-year absence, according to a company announcement.

The service will operate five times per week using an Airbus A330 aircraft configured with 266 seats. Flight SK969 will operate from Copenhagen to Mumbai, with the return service designated as SK970.

Strengthening Regional Links

Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, expressed strong enthusiasm for the launch. He stated the airline is "absolutely thrilled" to welcome passengers on the new service. Verhagen called the route a strategic milestone that opens doors between Scandinavia and one of the world's most dynamic economic hubs.

He noted the launch coincides with SAS celebrating 80 years of pioneering international travel. Reconnecting the regions is a deeply proud moment, he said. The airline cannot wait to welcome passengers on board from October 1st.

Mumbai serves as India's vibrant financial capital. Copenhagen Airport acts as a major international gateway for SAS. The service is expected to create fresh opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exchange.

Passengers will enjoy smooth connections to other SAS destinations across Europe and on long-haul routes. These include New York, Boston, and Toronto. Travellers can expect reliable service from one of the world's most punctual airlines, which consistently earns recognition for operational excellence.

Flight Schedule and Operations

The operational details for the new route are now available. The first flight from Copenhagen is scheduled for October 1, 2026. The return service from Mumbai will begin on October 3.

The outbound flight, SK969, will depart Copenhagen at 16:10 and arrive in Mumbai at 04:30 the next day. It will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The inbound flight, SK970, will depart Mumbai at 06:30 and arrive in Copenhagen at 12:15.

It operates on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These timings are designed to support convenient connections for both leisure and business passengers.

SAS Background and Context

SAS has served as Scandinavia's leading airline since its founding in 1946. The carrier operates a primary hub at Copenhagen Airport, with additional hubs in Oslo and Stockholm.

Each year, SAS carries more than 25 million passengers and 55,000 tons of cargo. Its network spans 135 destinations across Europe, the USA, and Asia. The airline joined the SkyTeam alliance in September 2024, which expands its network through partner airlines.

SAS also maintains a focus on reducing CO₂ emissions in line with international aviation climate goals. The Copenhagen-Mumbai route restores a direct link after nearly two decades. It further positions Copenhagen as a key European gateway to Asia.

Flights are open for booking now. The combination of modern aircraft, frequent service, and strong connectivity aims to make the route an attractive option for travellers seeking direct access between Northern Europe and India's commercial heart.
