Fiji Airways to launch Western Sydney flights in 2027
Fiji Airways will become the first international carrier to serve Western Sydney International Airport, starting a three-times-weekly service from Nadi in

Fiji Airways will launch direct flights to Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) in March 2027. The airline announced it will become the first international carrier to connect Fiji with Sydney's newest airport.
The service is scheduled to begin on March 19, 2027. It will operate three times per week on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. Fiji Airways will deploy its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on the route, adding more than 53,000 seats annually between Nadi and Western Sydney.
Targeting a key market
The launch coincides with a tourism boom for Fiji. The country recently surpassed one million visitors in a 12-month period for the first time in its history, according to the source. Australia remains Fiji's largest source market, and the new route specifically targets the fast-growing Western Sydney region.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Paul Scurrah said Western Sydney was a natural next step. He noted the region is home to one of the largest Fijian communities outside Fiji.
"It's about making it easier for our people to stay connected to family and friends," Scurrah said, "and for Fiji to keep growing as a destination the world wants to visit."
Boosting Sydney capacity
The new WSI service will complement Fiji Airways' existing twice-daily flights to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). This will bring the airline's total capacity between Fiji and the Greater Sydney region to up to three flights per day. The airline states this will be more than any other carrier on the route.
The schedule has been designed with weekend getaways in mind. The flight timings are as follows:
| Flight Number | Departure Airport | Departure Time (Local) | Arrival Airport | Arrival Time (Local) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FJ 991 | Nadi (NAN) | 1910 | Western Sydney (WSI) | 2255 |
| FJ 990 | Western Sydney (WSI) | 2355 | Nadi (NAN) | 0455 (next day) |
The early morning arrival into Nadi is intended to help onward connections within Fiji and to other destinations like Tonga and Samoa across the airline's network.
A pre-opening boost for WSI
WSI CEO Simon Hickey welcomed the airline's addition ahead of the airport's passenger launch, which is now less than 60 days away. He stated that Western Sydney is home to more than 70% of Greater Sydney's Fijian population. Hickey said the new service provides a direct connection for that community while offering tourists more choice and flexibility to visit Fiji.
